Opportunity to Learn (OTL) is the equitable conditions or circumstances within the school or classroom that promote learning for all students. It includes curricula, learning materials and instructional experiences. It supports student success by ensuring student access to both content and instruction. OTL is both a moral imperative and an ethical responsibility on the part of educators. (Marzano)
Best Practice is the term used to describe strategies, programs, or interventions that have been proven effective when implemented correctly. Teachers should use best practice when planning and delivering instruction. There is no guarantee that using best practices will be effective with every student however there is a high probability that it will be effective with a large portion of students. What is considered best practice can change as new information is discovered on how students learn, new technology is developed and new research is completed.
